The "S & D" was truly "Slow and Delightful", especially in its Northern section down to Evercreech Junction. In the foothills just before Bath, the AvonValley Steam Railway- one of several dedicated preservation groups - keeps the spirit of the S.& D. J. (for"Joint") R. well alive :-
